Today we will be catching up with one of the FatFractal founding team members.
Hello Mic. First of, just wanted to ask how are doing and have you been up to anything interesting lately?
“Hello Freddie. I am doing great and well there’s always something interesting going on at FatFractal! In particular these last couple months, I have been working on some very awesome updates to our CIB software. The new features allow enterprises to implement a private cloud that can operate on three environments. As well as a whole host of features that allow enterprises to share resources more efficiently as well as standardisation of deployment, administrative, security, application monitoring, analytics, app mgt and much more.”
Great! However could you first explain what CIB is for those who do not know?
“The CIB is a container (LXC) management platform built on top of docker.io. Each discrete stack, whether it be an API/application (i.e., NoServer, node.js) or service (i.e., MySql, ElasticSearch) stack runs in its own container. The containers, as well as other CIB artifacts (i.e., images, stacks), can be managed through an IT dashboard. The CIB is a tool that allows IT to standardize stack deployment, administration, monitoring, security and scaling.”,
What was your motivation to add this update and who does it benefit?
“The private cloud for enterprise is quite new and much like with all new software there are always greatly needed additions and features missing. I wanted to add these features to our Private Cloud Software, CIB. Our CIB software now provides a new way of effectively managing applications in a server environment. In the old days, managing individual applications on servers was a tedious process, time consuming and inefficient process. However, with our latest CIB software, this is a relic of the past. Applications can be individually managed, resources can be effectively allocated and safety is greatly improved. CIB has many great benefits particularly for IT operations within enterprises. In enterprises, everything needs to run smoothly. For example, CIB gives enterprises separate backup servers and resources to take over in a scenario when something goes wrong, allowing them to fix the main servers and resources without needing to manage and maintain huge amounts of extra servers and allowing them to save huge amounts of resources.”
Lastly, as the enterprise cloud is changing very fast what are your predictions for say the next 12-18 months in enterprise cloud?
“I think we will see more and more enterprises looking to implement private PAAS. The benefits in particular in terms of resource management are very attractive. The nice thing is with Paas is that you do not to change your infrastructure. The conservative nature of this is such that I believe paas to be the obvious choice over upgrading infrastructure. Whilst changing infrastructure will surely be part of the long-term plan for most enterprises. In the short to medium term I expect adoption to private paas to be very attractive. Let’s not forget that paas is a very young software package and expect its adoption to accelerate.”
